Owlthorpe Birds

Buzzard

Barn Owl

The Barn Owl can often be heard in the evenings as they look for prey in the night over Owlthorpe fields. The buzzard is often seen in the day time, flying over Ecological Owlthorpe. Usually they are seen in pairs gliding upon the thermals also looking over Owlthorpe Fields for prey. Sparrowhawks are known to live in the woodland habitat and on occasion have also been seen hunting the plentifull supply of prey. Swifts are a visitors from abroad to Ecological Owlthorpe in summer they feed on the insects that drift up on the thermals.

The robin is often looked upon as a visitor in the winter. But robins live in Ecological Owlthorpe and are seen all year round. The blackbird has the most melodic sound but all the birds join in including the wood pecker.

The Crow is native to Ecological Owlthorpe. One day they turned up in large numbers and setabout the Magpies. I think being carrion the magpies must have attacked one of the Crows hatchlings. The attack lasted a number of hours and the magpies took quite a beating. Lesson learnt: I do not think they will ever mess with the Crows again.
